2013 Youth Conference T-Shirt Design

Here is the t-shirt design we used for our stake youth conference this year:

 

We wanted there to be meaning behind the shirt. This is what we came up with...

• The mountain - represents the mountain of the lord/temple.
• Youth standing on top of the mountain - represents both the young men and young women.
• The tattered flag - represents what they stand for, personal title of liberty.
• The gear - though we stand firm in the gospel, we are always moving the work forward through service.
• ... or the sun - anchored in Christ, the son of God.

I loved that there were seniors involved in the process. We sat down and talked about what they wanted the design to look like, they sketched, changes were made, and eventually the final design was approved.

When it came time to pick out colors for the t-shirts, our senior co-chairs took the lead. They chose charcoal (for all the seniors), indigo blue (for all the adults), and pistachio, orchid, daisy, red, Carolina blue, jade dome (teal), tangerine, and ice grey for all the youth.

A text went out Monday night encouraging all those who attended youth conference over spring break to wear their t-shirts to school on Tuesday. Tuesday, after school, one of the seniors come by my house and she was so proud of the t-shirts she helped design. As she should be! :)

Shine Forth!

My husband called from work today and said, "Do you know what your daughter did?"  I took a deep breath and braced myself for the answer...  thinking something bad was coming.  Then he said he happened to be on FACEBOOK and saw a picture of she and a few of her friends in front of their high school.  I cringed, "What did they do?!"  I was happy, and relieved, with what followed.

I guess they had decided, on their own, to wear their t-shirts from Stake Youth Conference (which they attended over spring break) to school today.  Jeff, my husband, thought it was pretty cool and wanted to share his findings.  :)

Turns out that they have designated every Tuesday, "T-Shirt Tuesday".  What a great way to shine!  Possibly opening up discussions with their classmates.  Cannot wait to hear how bright the light was today! at school!

Refashion Show

This refashioned sweatshirt (below) made me think of you girls.  "You and your cute selves!"

It also got me thinking about putting together a "Refashion Show" with an emphasis on modesty of course.  :)

*

Wouldn't it be fun to have the Young Women and the Relief Society Women work together on this project?!  It would definitely qualify for a 10 hour project for one or more young women.

PERSONAL PROGRESS POSSIBILITIES:

• Choice and Accountability - under the direction of your parents or leaders, organize or participate in a discussion group, fashion show, or other event to help you and other youth choose to live the Lord’s standards.
• Divine Nature - Develop a skill you could use in your future home, such as cooking, sewing, making repairs, organizing, or designing. Teach that skill to someone, and explain how establishing a house of order.
• Knowledge - Learn a new skill or talent that will help you care for your own future family or home (for example, playing the piano, singing, budgeting, time management, cooking, sewing, or child care). Share with your family, class, or Young Women leader what you have learned.

Cut and Wrap T-Shirt

When I was searching for some new ways to use a plain white t-shirt, I found this fun wrap around top tutorial.  How cute, worn over another shirt...  keeping it modest!

I thought it might be fun for our dance themed YW Camp.  The girls could tie dye or spray paint the shirts how ever they would like.

Kinda reminds me of the up, tuck, and pull we would do with our shirts as kids.  Singing and dancing to "I Got The Music In Me", infront of the white rock fireplace.  Now that I think about it, more than half of you girls weren't even born yet.  Boy, I'm gettin' old!
